Editing for fun

Most editors have read a lot of horror and speculative fiction. Kris has also had to build it — find the seam where dread turns into scare, decide how much a monster gets to explain itself, keep an ensemble cast readable across three hundred pages. That's a different muscle than taste, and it's the one that catches the problems a craft checklist misses.

She specializes in character-driven fiction — clarity and flow, consistency and worldbuilding logic, character continuity, and emotional impact — balancing big-picture structure with precise line-level feedback, so the work gets stronger without losing what makes it yours. She's especially sharp on the small things: a character who's gone quiet for three chapters, a sentence whose subject slipped, a reveal that lands a beat too early. Specific, actionable notes, not "this needs work."

She also holds a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling — which shows up less in what she flags and more in how she says it. Feedback comes with honesty, respect, and encouragement, and you're never expected to take every note. The goal is a stronger manuscript, not a rewritten one.
